talk about rain!!
i showed up yesterday and didnt run at all because i didnt have any rain tyres and i was saving my purchase for todays race. it was a bit of a mistake i think as maybe the practice would have been worth more than the new rubber.... Fuji has a viscious schedule so it was an early start this morning. I had set up yesterday and had nothing to do today but shaken then race... A few friendly faces showed up, and i was greatful for it. Ant, Ant (me), and Antkiller.... :( and my mate ben. it was awesome to see you fellas, the help and support was just awesome!!! i got ready for qualifying not really expecting too much having done a total of 1 hr or wet riding on tsukuba over a year ago.... anyway my amateur display (2.10.3) was cut short after 5 laps as the mist descended leaving visibility at a minimum. not great bringin it in at the end of the straight... basically you just choose a line with no spray haze anyway the short of it was that i was in 8th, the middle of the third row. time passed. and its race time.... sighting lap, to the warm up, i got away well on the warm up lap and shot into second, this isnt the real deal but i just knew i could do it for real. we stopped, red light.... GO!! i nailed it, and shot through, i eased off before i needed to then realised i could grab the hole shot, so i went into block pass mode, the guy on pole saw me and moved accross, around corner one and out the other side, he almost spat himself off in the biggest possible way... but somehow he held onto it... i knew where i was weak (chicken) and i knew i had to hold the guys off behind me and id make space on the straight and in the brake zone off it... i managed that for about two laps, some awesome lines  then they both came through in the same passing manouver my knees were down, and i was doing all i could to keep up, but the slowly pulled away. nobody was behind me, and the laps passed. i started overtaking back markers, and that brought about a few moments as i wasnt about to slow or get off my line, or more importantly be held up by them. the chequer came along and i finished happy in 4th place. a best time of 2.03.4 and a race time that would have got me a 7th position in the 23 strong JSB field. so it was a good result......... and then...... "number 34, the BLOB, please come to the shaken place" oops!! i filled up with the wrong gas tank, so despite buying gas from the trackside station, i messed up my tanks and got a disqualification...... awesome!! drama is my middle name!!! anyway no probs, this race was just to get me used to Fuji, and it did. it also gave me a re-entry into wet riding and a valuable one too. so its all good!! thanks again to Anthony, Pete, and Ben. who braved the weather and conditions and gave me the support and help that makes the day good fun!! i really do appreciate it.. for those that couldnt make it, no dramas!! and Pete i hope you got home OK??? the weather got real nasty on the way back!!! so thats the racing season over. more testing, and on with the 16.5inch wheels that i picked up today. i have a new set of tyres that i may use in a few weeks to have a crack at the 2.00 mark at full course motegi.
